Located on Bibbulman Country, in North Greenbushes, WA. Allington Family Farm produce pasture raised lamb, Berkshire pork, chicken and eggs using ethical & sustainable farming practices.
Our farm is currently made up of our several properties. Our home farm, where we live and work, a beautiful 30 acres in North Greenbushes. It is here that all of our pasture raised chickens are produced. Next door we lease another 100 acres where our lambs and laying hens live. Alongside these blocks, we have another two blocks between here and Manjimup where our remaining sheep and Berkshire pigs live.
Our farming changed from a traditional model, to a ‘paddock to plate’ model, as we wanted to share our product with our wider community, rather than ‘lose it’ by selling it on to abattoirs.
We began selling to individual customers, before staring to supply local restaurants. We did this for a few years before COVID hit and all restaurants closed down practically overnight. We knew that if we wanted our business to survive, we needed to adapt; so we went back to selling our produce directly to the consumer.
Once the world opened up again, we were approached by a farmers market in Perth, who invited us to come along and sell our produce there - and the rest is history! You can read more about the farmers markets that we attend here.
We have several farming practices that for us, are non-negotiable. Although some of these are not yet industry-wide, we are very passionate in ensuring that we do as much as we can to only give treatments which are 100% necessary, or that we are legally bound by.
Low-stress stock handling
Non-mulesing & ear-marking practices
Limited intervention in terms of animal health treatments across the farm; depending on species and requirements.
No added hormones/antibiotics in any of our meat products
Regenerative farming practices to improve our soil health and pasture growth and quality
All animals have free access to open paddocks (with exceptions for necessary animal health care such as shearing and lamb marking)
All animals are hand-selected, loaded and delivered to the abattoirs by us to ensure minimal stress. The animals are then harvested, cut up and we then package the meat ourselves to ensure quality and consistency.
We love to be transparent about our farming practices and would love you to get in contact if you are interested in either volunteering with us, or visiting us on the farm at some point. We also hold Open Farm Days, Volunteer Days and training days on the farm - keep an eye on our social media for updates!
